Vale Benjamin (Ben) Dunstan

It is with heavy hearts that we pay tribute to the passing of Benjamin (Ben) Wesley Dunstan, who left us on May 13, 2024, at the age of 82. Ben was a cherished member of the Valley Seeds family and his loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on July 13, 1941, Ben joined Valley Seeds as a Seed Production Agronomist in 2003 and dedicated 16 remarkable years to the company. His passion for his craft and eagerness to share his extensive knowledge made him a cornerstone of our team, known for his expertise, respect, and gentlemanly demeanour. During his time at Valley Seeds, Ben’s significant contributions were honoured with the naming of a perennial ryegrass, Dunstan, which continues to thrive in Valley Seeds’ current pasture portfolio.

Even after his retirement in 2019, Ben’s commitment to Valley Seeds remained unwavering. He frequently returned to assist the team in various capacities, demonstrating his enduring love for the work he did. Most recently, Ben played a significant role in the latest harvest at Beaufort, a testament to his relentless dedication.

Speaking on behalf of the Valley Seeds Team, Megan Palmer, Valley Seeds Operations Manager, beautifully encapsulated Ben’s influence: “Ben has left a lasting legacy not just within the Valley Seeds team, but also within the industry. Ben was really a teacher and mentor to all who knew him.”

Ben’s spirit will continue to inspire us, and his legacy will live on through the fields he nurtured and the countless individuals he mentored. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Ben. You will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
