A productive pasture starts with more than good seed.
Getting the most from your pasture starts with understanding what your paddock needs. A soil test gives you valuable information about the condition of your soil and identifies nutrients that may be limiting establishment and ongoing pasture productivity.
With a clearer picture of what’s happening beneath the surface, you can work with your agronomist to make more informed decisions about your farm inputs and identify opportunities to adjust your approach.
Because when you have the right information, you can make the right changes — helping maximise production from every hectare.
The results will be emailed directly to your nominated agronomist, providing them with the information they need to review the results and provide tailored recommendations based on your individual soil and pasture requirements.
Once your soil test results are received by your agronomist they will be in touch to discuss your fertiliser requirements and work with you to develop a fertiliser program tailored to your paddock and production goals.
Absolutely.
The purpose of the program is to give you better information about your soil so you and your agronomist can make more informed decisions around fertiliser and pasture establishment.
Your soil test results can help form part of your broader paddock and pasture management plan.
We’ll send your soil test results directly to you and your nominated agronomist. When completing the application form, you’ll be asked to provide your preferred agronomist’s name and contact details.
Your soil test provides detailed information about the condition and nutrient levels in your soil. The results can then be used by you and your agronomist to develop practical fertiliser and soil management recommendations suited to your paddock and pasture goals.
Yes. Once you submit your claim for your Free Comprehensive Soil Test, a Valley Seeds Regional Business Manager will be in touch to arrange collection of your soil sample.
At this stage, you can discuss your preferred timing and arrange a mutually convenient time for the comprehensive soil test/s to be collected. This allows us to work around your farm operations and ensure the sampling is carried out at a suitable time.
This is a detailed soil test designed to give you and your agronomist a clear picture of what’s happening in your soil.
The test looks at:
- Soil moisture – how much moisture is currently in the sample.
- Soil pH and salinity (EC) – helping identify whether your soil is too acidic, alkaline or saline for optimum pasture growth.
- Organic matter and carbon – giving an indication of your soil’s organic reserves and overall soil condition.
- Major nutrients – including phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, calcium, magnesium and sodium.
- Trace nutrients – including zinc, manganese, iron, copper, boron, molybdenum, cobalt, selenium and other trace elements important for plant growth.
- Available nutrients – showing what nutrients are readily available for plants to access.
- Nitrogen – including different forms of nitrogen available in the soil.
- Phosphorus – including Colwell phosphorus, a key measure used to assess phosphorus availability for pasture growth.
- Exchangeable nutrients – measuring nutrients held on the soil and available to plants, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium and aluminium.
- Chloride and other elements – helping identify potential soil constraints or nutrient issues that may affect pasture establishment and growth.
As this is a field-based service, some time is required to coordinate your paddock visit, collect your soil sample and have it analysed by the laboratory. Once testing is complete, your results will be available to help you and your agronomist make informed recommendations.
We recommend allowing sufficient time for the paddock visit, laboratory testing and review of your results, particularly if you are planning an upcoming pasture or fertiliser application.
Your local Valley Seeds Regional Business Manager (RBM) will work with you to collect the soil sample from your paddock.
They will bring the required sampling equipment and paperwork, so there is no need for you to organise the testing yourself.
