Research Manager/Plant Breeder
Anthony Leddin is the only fully qualified plant breeder working in the private sector of the pasture seed industry in Australia. He has been the Research and Development Manager/Plant Breeder for Valley Seeds since 2008 and has been developing uniquely Australian bred varieties of pasture species for the last eight years. Anthony has trialled most of the pasture seed varieties available in the marketplace and developed a strong understanding of their application and management.
He is passionate about plant breeding and developing pasture varieties suited to Australian conditions.
Many of the government run breeding programs have been closed and most of the breeding for temperate pasture species in Australia is now being done by the private sector in New Zealand. Valley Seeds understands that Australia has completely different growing conditions, pests and diseases. Farming enterprises and management practices are also different requiring an Australian based research and development program. The urgency to breed pasture varieties adapted to the growing conditions in Australia is critical especially now with the onset of climate change.
Open day 19 October 2017
Anthony will be speaking at our open day, on site at Valley Seeds on 19 October.
